Class BL Autumn Newsletter
A brand new start!
The start of the school year is upon us and for both the children and myself,Y5 is a new venture.
This news sheet should hopefully cover any questions you may have. If not please feel free to come into school to discuss any issues, however small as these tend to become real worries when not aired, or send an email to bells@sji.tlfe.org and I will endeavour to try my best to reply quickly.
Regards
Mr Bell
Topics
Our mini topics this term are Science and Geography based, the teacher responsible for each is stated
- Geography: Mountains - Mrs Amos
- Science:
- Earth, Moon and Sun - Mr Bell
- Micro Organisms - Mrs Cooper
Reading books
Recent research has shown that a staggering 50% of 10 -11 year olds do not read books out of school but 90% enjoy the experience when made to do so. The report also stressed that reading and being read to is a major element for success in the future.
In our classroom we like to promote this ethos with systematic reading challenges.
P.E.
- Games – Monday
- Gymnastics – Friday
Please make sure PE kit is in school on these days. Children who have been in my class before will know I operate a ‘forget twice and lose a smiley face’ rule.
Gymnastics is best done with bare feet, allowing for a better grip on the apparatus. However, we would be grateful if you could inform us of any verucca your child may have so we can make exceptions.
Numeracy homework
For those in my Numeracy group, homework will continue to be set in our pink homework books. The aim is for work that children are struggling with will be sent home for reinforcement
Literacy homework
Our spelling sheets will continue to be set by the ‘group’ Teacher and WILL be checked every week. All Y5/6 teachers reinforce the importance of returning spelling sheets.
Talking Story sheets will be sent home at the end of each unit. These are imaginative worlds, Authors and letters. More details will follow.
Finally
If anybody would like to donate time to hear readers or have a skill they would like to share please come in to see us. We would grateful for your support.
THANK YOU.
