Class JH Newsletter
Dear Parents
A Happy New Year to you all.
The children are beginning to settle nicely into a new term and, as usual, here is a short letter to let you know about some of the things that they will be doing during the coming weeks.
- Our topic work will be geography based and we will be looking at Mountains and Rivers. I
- n Science we will be studying Rocks and Soil as well as Habitats.
- In Design Technology we will be investigating Levers and Linkages and how they might be incorporated into simple story books.
- In literacy lessons we will be looking at Myths and Legends, stories which raise issues and dilemmas and Information texts.
- In numeracy lessons we will be having a big push to strengthen ability to learn Multiplication tables.
- In R.E. we will be studying Heroes and Heroines as well as Spring festivals.
- Our work in art will hopefully link with our topic work and include ways of representing Landscapes using a variety of different media.
Reading:
I am sure you have seen the new reading records that have been given to the children and we hope the ideas that are included about ways in which to develop reading skills with your child are proving useful.
Reading is so important in building a firm foundation for learning so please try to encourage at least 15 mins to be spent each day if possible. I will not be asking for book reviews to be completed this term but at some point I will be introducing a Reading Challenge to encourage the children even more.
Spelling:
Spellings will be given on Monday as usual to be learnt for a test on Thursday unless your child has some specific spelling homework that needs to be tackled in a different way.
Homework:
One piece of literacy or numeracy homework handed out on Friday to be handed in no later than the following Friday. This is often provided to supplement or strengthen understanding of work carried out during the week so please check school bags to make sure that it is done and returned to school.
If you have any concerns about the information included in this letter then please get in touch.
Many thanks for your cooperation,
John Huntley
