Happy New Year to Class KW
Welcome back to a new term. This is a summary of the learning programme for your child during the Spring Term, together with suggestions of things that you could do to support your child. We hope you find this useful.
Water
Please make sure your child brings still, not flavoured, water in a plastic bottle with a drinking cap and their name on.
Library books
The School library session will be held on; alternate Thursdays.
P.E. Kit
P.E. will remain on Monday and Tuesday. Please ensure that your child has a t-shirt, shorts, and P.E. shoes with name written and plasters to cover earrings. Bags may be left on cloakroom pegs throughout the week.
Homework
We will be continuing the Fast Phonics program, children will continue learning about sentence structure and develop their understanding of nouns, verbs, and adjectives.
Reading
This year we have been very fortunate to have various helpers come into class to hear your child read. Please spend 10 minutes or so every day listening to your child read and asking some questions about the text which will help them understand what they have read. It is appreciated if your child has a suitable book bag to carry books home; we aim to change books twice a week. The class Space Challenge (key words) will continue and children are encouraged to practice these at home.
Spellings
Once again children will learn to recognise, read and spell words containing the spelling patterns and rules learned during the week before Friday’s spelling test.
Numeracy
Numeracy work will remain practical. Children will be extending counting to and from 100 in ones and tens, addition and subtraction to 10 and beyond and using money to 20p such as finding the total and change. Making maths enjoyable by playing games and finding opportunities to discuss Numeracy in everyday life – for example: shopping, in the kitchen, at the park etc….
Topic
This half term we shall be following the topic ‘Families’, learning about famous families, keeping ourselves safe and healthy and creating healthy meals. Your child may be asked to bring in items to show and display.
If you would like to discuss anything I would be pleased to talk to you
Thank you for your support.
