Class SG Autumn Newsletter
Welcome back to all the Year 6s.
As you will appreciate, this is a very important year for the children, and they will need all the support and encouragement they can get throughout the year, both from school and at home.
Our mini topics this term are Science and Geography based, the teacher responsible for each is stated:
Topics
- Geography- Mountains - Mrs. Amos
- Science- Earth, Moon and Sun - Mrs. Groves
- Micro Organisms - Mrs. Cooper
- History – The Tudors Mrs. Groves
Reading books
Recent research has shown that a staggering 50% of 10 -11 year olds do not read books out of school but 90% enjoy the experience when made to do so. The report also stressed that reading and being read to is a major element for success in the future.
In our classroom we like to promote this ethos with systematic reading challenges.
PE
- Gymnastics – Monday (Mrs. Groves)
- Games – Thursday (Mr. Bell)
Please make sure PE kit is in school on these days. Children who have been in my class before will know I operate a ‘forget twice and lose a smiley face’ rule.
Gymnastics is best done with bare feet, allowing for a better grip on the apparatus. However, we would be grateful if you could inform us of any verruca your child may have so we can make exceptions.
Homework
Numeracy Homework
For those in my Numeracy group, homework will be set once weekly dependent on the topic being taught. Some children may also be given times tables or key facts to learn.
Literacy Homework
Our spelling sheets will continue to be set by the ‘group’ Teacher and WILL be checked every week. Rewards will be given for work handed in on time. All Y5/6 teachers reinforce the importance of returning spelling sheets. Spellings will be set on a Monday and tested on a Thursday.
