Children shared each piece of their excellent home learning with the class. Lots of creative work, both shared on Tapestry and practically. Congratulations everyone.
Children took part in our Stanford School music event reciting a 'Summer' poem and singing songs 'Down at the station' and 'Lovely summer's day'.

Shiver me timbers! Seedlings class enjoyed a fun filled ‘Pirate day’.
With Captain Wilson, Captain Cox and Captain Groves we set sail for treasure! We built our own ship and some pirates, including Mrs Groves, had to walk the plank!
Next, it was time for making our treasure maps and a pirate’s parrot before setting off in search of treasure..... Pieces of Gold!
We played 'pin the patch on the pirate' before setting sail for home…. Land Ahoy!

It was a lovely day for our school trip to Hall farm. With packed lunches and sun hats we were ready for all the activities.
First we went to climb the castle, then a walk in the woods to find all the animals and search for the Pingles hiding in the trees!
Next, it was time for a tractor ride to feed the cows potatoes.
Lunch gave us a bit of time to rest then it was off to walk the goats before coming home on the coach. What a fun and busy day!
A very big thank you to all the helpers who came on our trip too.

Children took part in lots of fun sporting activities for our annual school sports day. From javelin to island hopping and the sack race, there were plenty of things to do. What champions we all are!
A.D - That was fun, I liked the skipping race best.
J.F - I liked the lolly it was yummy!
L.D - I got lots of stickers, this sticker was for the sack race.
Super FS and KS 1 Sports Day this morning - fun PE activities, athletic skills being used and great team spirit! Well done to Green Team for being the winners today!
Thank you to all the staff, helpers and parents/carers for attending. The pupils were excellent and showed resilience, determination and skill.
Seedlings children have been learning about ways to keep safe in the sun. They sorted items the help Miss Wilson keep safe in the sun when on her holiday too!!
We had lots of fun taking part in the Year 5 and 6 activity today, from making different crafts, to horse rides and sports activities too. There was also ice-cream to keep us cool too!
M.E "I liked the ice-cream because it cooled me down."

Sunflowers and Seedlings have begun to learn about the 'Ten Keys to a happier life.'
They joined together this week to look at number three: Exercising! They had fun exercising together and playing lots of team games.
Here is why exercising is so important: Our body and our mind are connected. Being active makes us happier as well as being good for our physical health. It instantly improves our mood and can even lift us out of a depression. We don't all need to run marathons - there are simple things we can all do to be more active each day. We can also boost our well-being by unplugging from technology, getting outside and making sure we get enough sleep!
Today we have celebrated Founder’s day which marks the schools 289th birthday! Children listened to Mrs Brumfield and Mr Lingard about our school long ago in a special assembly before receiving a 5p coin. We sang the school song and looked at a special silver plate given by Philip and Sarah Stanford. We then went to look at the school flag flying in the Key Stage two playground. “Happy Founder’s Day"
Key Stage 1 enjoyed a very interesting assembly from Mrs. Brumfield and Mr. Lingard who told them all about the history of Stanford School.
CJ- Our school is 289 years old. It was founded in 1730.
CR- Sarah and Philip Stanford were the founder's of our school.
MT- I liked looking at Sarah Stanford's alms plate because it was very shiny. It was given to Laceby church in 1725.
HE- I saw some symbols on the plate, like a lion and fire and the Stanford badge.
AM- The Stanford badge came from King Henry VIII.
FR- We got a 5p coin each because it's Penny Day.
TB- We all sang The Stanford School song.
LC- We also sang Happy Birthday Stanford School.
JS- We saw the special Stanford School flag.
LS- I was interested in the old coins that Mr. Lingard and Mrs. Brumfield showed us.
BJ- We looked at lots of old photos of our school.
Proud Seedlings children who have completed their brilliant home learning this half term.
This term Seedlings have been learning to skip in P.E. From exploring and controlling the rope, learning to turn the rope over our head, to our first skip, it has been hard work but we kept on trying. We can now practise skipping at playtime too!
Seedling and Sunflower classes enjoyed their reading collaboration on the school field.
Seedlings went on a minibeast hunt in the nature area. The children have been learning all about minibeasts. They found spiders, worms, butterflies, slugs, snails,woodlice and centipedes. They worked in small groups hunting and creating videos about what they found.

Well done to our Head boy for organising a whole school Superhero fundraising day to raise money for vulnerable and disabled children in our local area.
Every week, the children have enjoyed sharing books and reading with a new friend.
OB- I like it because I get to make new friends in Seedlings.
JM- I like to see what the Year 1's are reading.
HN- It helps me practice my reading.
CP- It's good to join the classes together.
HM- I like doing it: it's fun.
EH- I like helping other people learn to read.
Today it was the perfect time for Seedlings class to plant some tomatoes outside. We looked at the different parts of the plant including the roots, truck and leaves and predicted how the plant might change. We watered the tomato plant and will look forward to noticing the changes and hopefully some ripe red tomatoes!! You can see more pictures on our Gallery page.
We were very excited to welcome some ducklings into Seedlings class, kindly brought in by Leona’s mummy and sister today. We learnt about the colour of the duck eggs and what a male and female duck looks like. Children handled the ducklings gently and observed features such as their webbed feet, fluffy feathers, and small wings.

Today, we enjoyed listening to Vicky, the veterinary nurse and Victoria from Rase Vets, about how they care for animals. Vicky showed us some of her equipment such as a stethoscope, mask and apron and Victoria brought special bandages that stick together without glue, tape or pins and we practise bandaging the toy dogs.
Finally, we learnt not to touch dogs we don't know, that some dogs might wear a 'muzzle' and to always ask its owner before stroking a dog.

Today has been Seedlings 'Hook' day. We dressed as animals and enjoyed painting our favourite animal. We record information on a tally chart to find out our favourite class pet then use the tally to make a graph. Finally, we created images to illustrate our class story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and sequence the pictures in the correct order.
Well done to the winners of the FS Easter Bonnet competition. All the bonnets looked super!

Seedlings class showed their Easter bonnets at our annual Easter Bonnet Parade!
A very big ‘Thank you’ to Mrs Bennett for our Spring-time chicks she knitted with a little chocolate treat inside.
Working collaboratively, children from Year 6 and Seedlings class joined together to develop reading and build social skills.
Children from Seedlings and KS1 joined together for our Eater assembly. We sang Easter songs, listened to Reverend Hutson talk about Jesus at Easter and finished with a quiet moment of prayer. As a reminder of when Jesus died on the cross we then received a palm cross.
We are very proud of the children who have completed their home learning.
Today’s the day for our teddy tea party and there was lots of excitement as we brought out teddies into Seedlings class. We made different sandwiches and wrote a name label for our teddy too. We had to make sure we showed good manners and shared kindly with our teddy! Mrs Wink, Mrs Hackfath and Mrs Smith came along and brought their bears too!

Reverend Philip Stevens came to talk to the children in Seedlings class about how he uses his hands to help other people. We learnt about using hands to baptise children, marry mums and dads and help older people come and visit the church. He then showed us the different coloured stoles he wear, their colours and what is embroidered on them. Finally, we all used our hands to show how we might pray.
This week Seedlings Yellow have the responsibility of looking after the school stick insects. The children enjoyed cleaning out the tank today. They then had turns at handling the stick insects.
Today the children have been busy baking biscuits for our teddy party tomorrow. The children weighed the ingredients following a recipe. They then took turns to cream the butter and sugar. Next they added the flour and made a dough. They then rolled the dough and used a teddy bear cutter to make teddy bears. The children can’t wait to taste the biscuits tomorrow. Don’t forget your teddy children!
Today Seedlings went on a walk to the nature area looking for the signs of spring. We found daffodils, small frogs, flowers and bees. We also spotted lots of different birds. The children looked around the pond area and sat inside the willow hide. We then listened to a story about a tadpole.
The school nurses Liz and Lorraine came to talk to Seedlings class about how they use their hands to help children in our school. Liz explained how they might check if children are healthy by measuring their weight and height. They showed us some glasses they might use to check our eyes and showed us how to check our hearing using the special machine and the earphones.

Finally we have enjoyed being nurses and doctors in our role play area too!
Today we visited the chicks to find 7 eggs have hatched and 3 eggs were left. We learnt that the 'incubator' helps to keep the chicks warm and that a chick pecks a hole in the shell with its egg tooth! The chicks looked different once their feathers had dried and became fluffy.
As part of our ‘Helping Hands’ work the children in Seedlings classes learnt about the role of the Police Officer. PCSO's Andy, Kirsty and Becky talked about how the police help us and keep us safe. They showed us the different parts of their uniform such as their badge number, their body protection vest and their radio. We also looked at the police van’s blue flashing light, listened to the siren and even sat inside the police van!

We are very fortunate to have some new arrivals expected at school in the very near future. A hatching station has been delivered to school with 10 eggs that are expected to hatch within the next 2 days and they will be with us for the next 10 days. We will post updates on their progress on the science blog for you to check on. We can’t wait to see them and some children are already thinking of names to call them.

Today, as part of Science day, we listened to a scientist who showed us different science experiments in our school assembly.
Back in the classroom we carried out our own experiment and used our eyes and hands to help us observe changes to three blocks of ice. We placed the ice in different places - outside, inside on the table and inside next to the radiator and observed the changes every 10 minutes. We learnt lots of new words including, solid, liquid and thaw. We found out that that the ice near the radiator melted the quickest because it was the warmest place.
Stanford School had a fantastic day for World Book Day! From amazing, creative costumes to designing and creating their favourite character onto a wooden spoon- well done to you all!

Seedlings had great fun on ‘World Book Day’ dressing up as their favourite story characters. With Willy Wonka, Alice in Wonderland, Little Red Riding Hood and many more!
Children listened to lots of stories including Elmer, The tiger who came to tea and Aliens love underpants!
Lots of paired reading took place too before joining together share our costumes in assembly.

Seedlings children visited Stanford Library to learn about the role of a librarian and the parts of a book such as the title, author, illustrator and blurb. We listened to a story read by Mrs Wink and then borrowed some books to take back to our class. Of course we had to scan the books and stamp them with the date on which to return the book first!

Gung Hay Fat Choy! – Happy New Year.
This week we have been celebrating the Chinese New Year, the year of the ‘Pig’. There have been lots of different activities including, listening to the Chinese Zodiac story and sequencing the animals, tasting Chinese food, serving customers in the Chinese restaurant and using chopsticks! We explored Chinese writing and tasted noodles, rice, spring rolls and prawn crackers!
Family and friends came to join Seedlings children to share some of their learning this half term.
Children have been busy dressing up and acting out the story of Cinderella. They made golden carriages, a shiny shoe and sequenced the pictures to help us retell the story.
As a thank you to all the helpers and volunteers at Stanford school we perform our Michael Rosen poem 'Let me do it' at the community tea.
We have been making porridge and exploring oats linked to the story ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’. We thought of words to describe the porridge such as ‘lumpy, sticky and creamy’. We then used our maths skills to set the table for the three bears, ordering the items by size and cut eye shapes to make bear masks then used the masks to act out and retell the story.
As part of our 'Speak Out. Stay Safe.' learning this term, we participated in a special assembly with Emma from the NSPCC. We discussed what sort of behaviours are okay, and who we can talk to if we are worried, concerned, or just need someone to have a chat with!
To say thank you for the assembly and workshops, we used our Pupil Voice teams to discuss what type of fundraiser we would like to do to help raise money to support the super work that the NSPCC do.
We decided on a Stanford School Golden Mile Colour Run - it was great fun!
Today Seedlings took part in the RSPB Big Schools' Birdwatch. Seedlings worked with a partner to record the different birds that they spotted.
Matt Goodfellow came to share some of his poems in our assembly today. There were lots of actions and funny rhyming phrases which made us all laugh!
Children helped make gingerbread men linked to our story. We talked about the ingredients and different textures but the best bit was eating the gingerbread man.
This week we have been reading the Gingerbread Man. Today the children received a letter from the Old Woman asking for help to find the missing Gingerbread Man. There were several clues which the children worked together to find the hidden gingerbread man. We found him hidden in the wooden blocks. Some children then decided to write a letter back to the Old Woman to explain where they found him.
Emma from the NSPCC came to talk to us about the work the NSPCC do, show Buddy, the 'Speak out' mascot and introduce a fundraising sponsored event.
This week we have been learning the story the 'Three Billy Goats Gruff'. Children made bridges for the goats to cross and Billy goat masks.
There has been lots of excitement in Seedlings class for our hook day linked to 'Once upon a time..' We brought out favourite traditional story book and painted a picture of our character. We then painted large castle and wrote some words to describe our character such as kind, friendly, brave or helpful.
There has been lots of fun and games at our Christmas party. We danced to music with the children from Sunflower class. Santa then came to visit us with an early present to put under our Christmas tree and we sang a Christmas song together. There was more fun enjoying party food and playing pass the parcel. What an exciting day!

As a special treat today we went to see the festive lights and decorations at Mrs Wink's. We saw penguins, polar bears, a musical pink snowing Christmas tree and lots of more. Finally, we had a drink, biscuit and some fun Christmas songs around the big Christmas tree.
Mrs Wink kindly gave all the children a chocolate Santa treat too. A very big thank you to Mrs Wink and all the helpers.

We enjoyed dressing up in our Christmas jumpers to raise money for ‘Save the Children’.
This week we have been taking care of the winter birds by making bird cakes. We used lard and seeds to make Christmas bird cake. We then went to hang them in the nature area.
This week is our turn to take care of our school pet stick insects.
Children enjoyed handling the stick insects gently and learning about what food they need.

The children in Seedlings class arrived to find a new member of the class……
Santa has sent an elf to watch the children in our class, and learn how to be kind, helpful and caring. We decided to name the elf ‘Glitter the Elf’ and hope we will be on Santa’s ‘Good’ list!!!
Children from Seedlings class went to St Margaret’s Pre-school to sing festive songs. There were lots of actions and dancing too.
We have been overwhelmed by the support from family and friends who came to our Christmas craft sale. Children sewed a bell and made a festive wreath and photo frame.
We raised a staggering £102.01. The children will now decide how best to spend the money.
We all enjoyed our Christmas dinner today, together with party hats and crackers!
Today the children made bird fat cakes. We watched a RSPB video explaining how to make fat cakes. We checked we had all the ingredients and equipment needed to make the fat cakes. The children then made the fat cakes. The children are going to hang the fat cakes in the nature area.

What a fantastic Christmas Fayre - thank you to all those who supported it and to the pupils for showing their enterprise skills through designing, making, evaluating and selling their products. Well done everyone.
Seedlings children have been working together, learning words, actions and songs, to perform their Christmas nativity 'Busy, Busy, Bethlehem'. A tremendous thank you to parents, governors, helpers and residents from Cloverdale who came to watch our show. What an amazing performance, enjoyed by everyone!

Children have learnt lots of sounds and are beginning to learn how to use these sounds to read some simple words.
This week Seedlings class have been learning about ways to keep safe when near traffic. We listened to Mark from Humberside Fire and Rescue who explained the importance of wearing seat belts, cycle helmets and hi viz clothing as part of our road safety week. We then went outside to used the road signs to practise crossing the road safely and to find safe places to cross a road, such as a zebra crossing.
This term Seedlings and Sunflower classes have joined together to share some traditional stories with each other. Children explored the characters in the ‘Three Little Pigs’, ‘The Enormous Turnip’, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘The Little Red Hen’. Children acted out their favourite part and thought about the moral in each story. Finally, we chose one story to retell to our partner.

Take a look at the wonderful activities we have been doing to raise money for Children in Need. From matching the Pudsey Pairs on the whiteboard, icing spotty biscuits, making Pudsey ears and painting pictures of Pudsey we have had lots of fun working together
This week our focus has been about ‘Anti-bullying ’. During the week children from Seedlings class thought about what they could do to help make everyone happy, talked about 'top tips for a happy school' and made hand prints together with a with a new or different friend.
We also recognised extra friendly children during the week and wore our odd socks for International Tolerance day too.
Today we have been very busy with our needle and thread sewing bell decorations for our enterprise craft sale.
We were delighted to welcome lots of mums, grandmas and aunties for the afternoon’s activity. A very big ‘thank you’ for all your help.
Children have been creating poppies at part of remembering 100 years since the end of World War I. Children moulded clay poppies, cut paper poppies and painted poppies too.
Children also wrote about poppy day and sat silently in our assembly for 2 minutes. We will remember them.
Today we have been learning about Diwali. We listened to the story about ‘Rama and Sita’. There were lots of fun activities too including songs, making Rangoli patterns on the floor, Mehndi patterns, Diva lamps and Diwali cards!!

We have been celebrating Bonfire Night and learning all about the story of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot.
Children have been sequencing pictures of ‘The Gunpowder Plot’ story, splattering paint to represent fireworks and making toffee apples with the play dough. We used our maths knowledge and cutting skills to make 2D shaped rockets and in P.E we have been dancing with ribbons and scarves to both classical and pop music. It has been a sparkling week!

Our Halloween activities were lots of fun. Children were involved making witches black cats, icing scary biscuits and orange pumpkins!
As part of our mental health awareness day children talked about what things they do that make them feel happy.
A.B. - "Play with my dog Harley."
O.H. - "Play with the trains and build a long one with lots of carriages."
T.S. - "To make me happy I go to the park and play on the round-about."
B.A - "When my uncle comes to my house, that makes me happy. We play hide and seek."
J.F. - "To my mummy and daddy."

M.E. - "To the teachers."
J.R. - "To nanna and grandad."
We then went outside to clap as hard as we can for as long as we can. Take a look at how we got on, it certainly made us feel happy!
The children went for a walk along Cooper Lane. The children enjoyed spotting the different homes, house names and house numbers along Cooper Lane.
The sun shone as we put on our wellies and coats and set off in search of autumn animals. We looked in the trees and on the ground to find a spider, owl, squirrel, hedgehog, fox and a bat.
Then, we all searched for autumn colours that were brown, yellow, orange and white in colour. Next, we worked in teams to sort the animal pictures to find their correct homes. After that we looked for an autumn leaf before finally sitting down to look closely at the colour and outline of the our leaf and draw what we could see.

L.D - "It was fun when we played the game to run and put the animal in the right home."
Children have been busy enjoying books in our new literacy lodge and the class reading area. Which books do you like and why?
C.P: I like Star Wars books, the one that looks like bears called Chewbacca. I like bear books too.
A.B: I like butterfly books because they can fly and their pretty colours.
J.M: I like looking at books about aliens because I like aliens, they live on the moon.
A.C: - I like books about princesses because they have pretty dresses like Cinderella.
Seedlings class showed good sharing and taking turns with children from St Margaret’s Pre-school today. There were lots of fun outdoor activities, singing songs before listening to a story about ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’. Finally, we sang our harvest song and everyone joined in with the actions too.
Our Harvest Festival was a great success, with everyone joining in to sing songs and actions. Reverend Stevens came to say a prayer and give thanks for the food at harvest time. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our celebration, the donations of food will be sent to the homeless charity, Harbour Place.
Our local PCSO Marc came to visit Seedlings children to talk about keeping safe near roads and around any strangers.
Following the story 'The Little Red Hen' and in preparation for our Harvest Festival we were inspired to make some bread.
Our hands and fingers were very busy kneading and rolling the dough. We looked at the ingredients needed and thought of lots of words to describe the dough including ‘squidgy’, ‘soft’ and ‘stretchy’ and how the bread changed once cooked.
Of course the best bit was eating our fresh bread and enjoying the delicious smell!
Take a look at our first PE lesson we have been galloping, skipping, using our tip toes and crouching down small. Can you think of some different ways to move?
Today the children have been busy planting winter flowers in the Seedlings outdoor area. They did lots of digging with the trowel and looked at the roots on the plants too. We then drew pictures and made marks and letter shapes about what we did.
Take a look at what the children have been up to on their first few days at school. From making cups of tea in the play house to pouring water in the water tray there have been lots of things to do and explore and plenty of new friends to meet!
