Barley class had a fantastic day at Cleethorpes. We went bowling, had lunch at Oriental Express then went to the beach for the afternoon. Plenty of Ice Cream was had by all!! A fantastic day celebrating a fantastic year in Barley Class!
Pupils had a great time at the Butlin’s disco last night. Dancing and Teaching classic songs was a hit... Oops up side your head!!!

Year 5 and 6 have been working hard, planning and preparing a range of stalls and games for our annual Summer Activity Day.
All pupils in the school were invited to visit the stalls and spend some of their change to help raise school funds. There were lots of creative ideas this year, such as mask making and 'dream catcher' crafting, as well as a range of sporting challenges and an obstacle course. The 'slime' making activity was particularly popular! Of course, lots of food and drink was on offer as well, including: ice cream, milkshake, popcorn, candy floss and biscuits. In addition, there were some fun games (with prizes to win) and a tombola. We also had a special treat this year, as the children had the opportunity to have horse rides on the field, thanks to support from the local community! It was a fantastic day and a great success.
The children raised over £600 for school funds. Well done everyone!
Stanford School had an inspirational speaker visit- Julia Scardone. Julia is a Judo athlete, who has represent Great Britain in many competitions all around the world. She spoke to the pupils about her inspirational, yet challenging journey to become a successful Judo competitor and how having passion, determination, resilience and sportsmanship made her the successful competitor she is today. Julia then demonstrated some basic Judo skills to some KS2 pupils. Thank you Julia, for inspiring Stanford pupils to achieve through hard work and determination!
A small group of pupils from Year 5 and 6 took part in an Athletics tournament at King George V’s Stadium. They represented the school brilliantly and competed in 600 m Run, 75m Sprint, standing long jump and Vortex. The pupils’ skills and behaviour was fantastic, and we are extremely proud they represented Stanford School, Well Done!
Barley class had a wonderful afternoon on Wednesday when they attended a rounders festival at Healing Academy. The children played really well, showing great team skills, and one of our teams even made it to second place in their league. Well done!
Barley class enjoyed a morning of Physical Activity with Mr Page. They were developing their rounder’s skills ready for some up and coming competitions in the summer term. They had a great morning working in teams, fielding and batting their way to victory!
Year 6 celebrated the end of the SATS week in style. After the final test, we enjoyed some games of rounders and football in the sun, then relaxed in the classroom with a good movie, sweets and blankets. On Friday, we launched our new topic, where we will be learning about changes in the UK since the 1940s. Many of the children attended in fancy dress and we listened to the best pop music of the past 6 decades while creating some pop art.
Well done, year 6, for the positive attitudes during tests.
Barley class enjoyed revising in the sunshine yesterday afternoon We worked in teams to complete a Maths quiz with various rounds linked to Math topics- it was great fun!
Well done to the winners of the Barley Class 'Design an Easter Egg' competition. All the eggs looked wonderful.

Working collaboratively, children from Year 6 and Seedlings class joined together to develop reading and build social skills.
Children from key stage two recently took part in a Junior Swimming Gala at Grimsby Leisure Centre. It was a fantastic afternoon and a great experience for all of the children. They were strong participants and showed great sportsmanship and teamwork skills. They represented the school proudly and all received a medal and certificate.
Special visitors were recently invited into school, to talk to the children about inclusiveness, diversity and treating each other with respect. Children were encouraged, as always, to embrace each others differences and celebrate what makes each of us unique and special.
Year 5 and 6 were treated to special visitors recently, when we invited in Marcus and Fumiko, who practise the Buddhist faith.
We learned a lot about the origins of Buddhism, as well as the core beliefs and morals. It was a very calming and enlightening afternoon, where lots of deep questions were asked and considered. We also all got to have a go at some Buddhist chanting and all children received a bookmark as a souvenir of the visit.
We are very fortunate to have some new arrivals expected at school in the very near future. A hatching station has been delivered to school with 10 eggs that are expected to hatch within the next 2 days and they will be with us for the next 10 days. We will post updates on their progress on the science blog for you to check on. We can’t wait to see them and some children are already thinking of names to call them.

Year 6 had a wonderful World Book Day, dressing up as their favourite literary characters and designing spoons for a competition.
Children in Key Stage 2 took part in several activities across the different classrooms. In Barley class, the activity was focused on 'Fantastic Beasts', where the children created their own beasts and wrote descriptions about them.
Well done to the winners of the ‘design an outfit’ competition organised by a group of year 6 pupils. The year 6 team led the special assembly, organised the work and chose the winners. Excellent designing skills, interesting colours and a range of materials were used.
Stanford School had a fantastic day for World Book Day! From amazing, creative costumes to designing and creating their favourite character onto a wooden spoon- well done to you all!

A fantastic day was had by all pupils in Key Stage 2! They worked collaboratively with their peers and rotated around the four different activities in the morning. From creating positions, to using drama skills all linked to a variety of different books.
Star Anise’s activities were based on ‘Voices in the Park’ by Anthony Browne. The book is based on a story told from four different perspectives. We read the story, questioned the different voices and then worked in small groups to create freeze frames as one of the perspectives from the characters in the books.
Barley class worked in pairs to solve the Celebrity Tweets, as they had used the incorrect Homophones.
Pupils identified the incorrect homophone and then used their spelling skills to write the correct spelling.
PCSO Marc Island visited Barley class to talk to them about Social Media and Internet safety. He also spoke to the Y6 pupils about hate crime and hate incidents and how these should be reported.
Pupils from Key Stage took part in our first Gymnastics competition with other local schools. The pupils performed brilliantly with fantastic routines, skills and confidence to impress the judging panel.
Overall we had one of the year 5/6 team place 4th… a fantastic achievement at our first event! Well done to all the pupils who took part, they all have fantastic gymnastics skills where we hope they can showcase these off further in the future, Well done!

We were really lucky to have a poet come to school to share his work.
He spoke to us about why he decided to be a poet and where he gets his inspiration from. He was really funny and we had a lot of fun joining in. After that he went into the classrooms and helped us to write poems.
As part of our 'Speak Out. Stay Safe.' learning this term, we participated in a special assembly with Emma from the NSPCC. We discussed what sort of behaviours are okay, and who we can talk to if we are worried, concerned, or just need someone to have a chat with!
To say thank you for the assembly and workshops, we used our Pupil Voice teams to discuss what type of fundraiser we would like to do to help raise money to support the super work that the NSPCC do.
We decided on a Stanford School Golden Mile Colour Run - it was great fun!
Well done to our Barley Class winners in the 7billionideas project. Thank you to Mr Kemp from Caistor Lions for supporting the event and joining us to judge the competition. All pupils made fantastic prototypes and a special well done to the winners. All pupils enjoyed using their design skills, presentation skills and team work skills.
On Monday 21st January, year 6 were very excited to share our recent learning with family and friends, as part of our learning share.
We have been looking at key individuals linked to social justice - such as Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks.
Inspired by Dr King's speech - 'I Have A Dream' - we created some poetry on the theme of social change and looking after our planet. Alongside our poems, we crafted some vibrant dream catchers.
We also produced some news reports, in the style of journalists, about Rosa Parks unfair treatment on a bus in 1955.
The children have been very enthused with this topic of learning and were also eager to share posters and art they had created linked to themes of social justice, such as human rights and equality.

In Key Stage 2 we have been discussing Fundamental British Values and what it means to us. This week we focused on 'Individual Liberty'.
We ranked different statements about Our Rights in order of importance;
'This was a really difficult task - how can you say one is more important? They are all important and everyone will have a different idea of what to put first' - Charlie, Year 6
'My group all disagreed, we couldn't decide so had to have quite a debate about it' - Lucy, Year 5
'Every group had a different idea of what order they should be in. None of us agreed, all of them are really important' - Finley, Year 3
Children enjoyed their debates, giving reasons for their opinions and understanding that there was no right or wrong answer, everyone has their own opinion, which are all respected.

What a fantastic Christmas Fayre - thank you to all those who supported it and to the pupils for showing their enterprise skills through designing, making, evaluating and selling their products. Well done everyone.
Barley class completed an experiment on how light enables us to see colours. We used different coloured Smarties and coloured overlays to investigate what happens to the colours when an overlay is placed over them.
Barley class worked in pairs to explain what extreme means. We then used these meanings to understand what extremism is and discussed where this had occurred in the past.
Pupils were also able to give other examples that linked to books they had read, films they had watched. Barley class discussed why people may hold these views and held a class discussion about these.
Children in year 6 have been completing lots of work on calculations involving fractions. They have been working hard to compare and simplify fractions, moving on to using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. On Wednesday morning, the children worked in pairs to solve a range of fractions problems (both arithmetic and reasoning) and were able to explain the process required for the different types of problems. Lots of great work and good progress made.
Barley Class work this week linked with remembrance Day. We analysed a range of different poems, written by different writers, on the war. We then used these as inspiration to write our own war poems using powerful language and imagery.
We also used a range of art mediums to create silhouette artwork linked to Remembrance Day. To create the background we used the shading technique to create a sunset effect.
Some of these were also shared on our Remembrance Service on Friday.
As part of commemorating 100 years since the end of WW1 some members of Star Anise and Barley helped make poppies as part of a display in the KS2 playground. "Lest We Forget"
Mrs. Brady is delighted to announce that 22 children in Year 6 have chosen to continue learning the viola. She is looking forward to developing their technique and extending the repertoire of pieces that they will play this year.
Key Stage 2 children enjoyed taking part in a harvest celebration in St Margaret’s Church, as ever the church looked lovely with its decorations created by the congregation.
The children enjoyed singing hymns and performing harvest poems and songs.
Children in Barley class helped raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support at Stanford Library, on Friday morning. The children performed several poems in groups, three of which were written entirely by the children themselves. They performed very well then enjoyed some cakes and juice after making a small donation to the charity.
This morning, Barley class were treated to a special visitor from the '7 Billion Ideas' project. We watched some videos and heard some inspirational stories of young people who had come up with world changing ideas and inventions (sometimes leading them to become multi-millionaires!) We will be taking part in #ROAR2018, where the children will be working in small groups to work on enterprising projects, inventing products of their own and making models and marketing materials.
The Caistor Lions have generously funded the project and a representative from them may be helping with our judging in a few months time. Over the next few weeks we will be building on the children's initial ideas and we will keep our blog updated with our progress.
We are so impressed with the home learning that has been brought in so far. It's wonderful to see the effort that so many of the class have put into the range of tasks. Well done Barley!
In Barley class we have been having lots of fun this week, learning about different Ancient Greek myths. In small groups we read the stories (Hercules, Perseus and Medusa, Theseus and the Minotaur) and the performed them for the rest of the class. We are also reading about the Adventures of Odysseus. We will explore the structure and language of myths in even more detail before we begin planning and writing our own stories!
Barley class worked collaboratively with their peers to create a model, explaining how we see things and how light travels. They created a presentation explaining this using scientific vocabulary.
In Barley class, we have been learning about magical creatures through the wonderful book 'Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide'. We explored different beasts and worked on particular sentence skills to enhance our writing. After looking at examples, we then created our own creature and planned and wrote a report about them, including interesting facts about their appearance, behaviour and other feature.
The children in Barley class had lots of fun and a fantastic start to the term with our Ancient Greek Hook Day. Many of the class wore exciting costumes; dressed as soldiers, emperors, or even Gods and Goddesses. We designed and painted some terracotta pots in the style of Ancient Greek pottery as well as designing and crafting theatre masks and tasting some Greek salad! We look forward to sharing some of our work, as well as lots of writing and other art projects, in our class learning share that will take place before Christmas.
