On this page you can see updates over the term of our activities and learning. Whilst the new term gets underway, have a look at what Pumpkin Class got up to last year.
We had a fabulous day today at Far Ings Nature Reserve.
We’ve been viewing the Humber Bridge, walking through trails, pond dipping, bug hunting, identifying plants and creatures in different habitats and creating clay models.

We have been using our sewing skills to create nature pictures.
First we drew our designs, then we used different threads to create the image.

Super FS and KS 1 Sports Day this morning - fun PE activities, athletic skills being used and great team spirit! Well done to Green Team for being the winners today!
Thank you to all the staff, helpers and parents/carers for attending. The pupils were excellent and showed resilience, determination and skill.
Key Stage 1 enjoyed a very interesting assembly from Mrs. Brumfield and Mr. Lingard who told them all about the history of Stanford School.
CJ- Our school is 289 years old. It was founded in 1730.
CR- Sarah and Philip Stanford were the founder's of our school.
MT- I liked looking at Sarah Stanford's alms plate because it was very shiny. It was given to Laceby church in 1725.
HE- I saw some symbols on the plate, like a lion and fire and the Stanford badge.
AM- The Stanford badge came from King Henry VIII.
FR- We got a 5p coin each because it's Penny Day.
TB- We all sang The Stanford School song.
LC- We also sang Happy Birthday Stanford School.
JS- We saw the special Stanford School flag.
LS- I was interested in the old coins that Mr. Lingard and Mrs. Brumfield showed us.
BJ- We looked at lots of old photos of our school.
Wednesday was such a beautiful day we decided to do our paired reading outside!
We love to read with our friends.
This week we had a Maths Morning – that’s right a whole morning of maths, We loved it!
We completed four different challenges involving money, shape, direction and multiples.
We wanted to share some pictures of us all enjoying our new classroom on a wet playtime!
Well done to all our competitors, we are so proud of you.
After only a week, some of our beans have begun to germinate!
We observed them carefully today and made observational drawings in our science books.
Some pupils from Year 2,4 and 5 took part in an inter- school archery and dodgeball competition on Tuesday. at North Thoresby Primary Academy. They used a range of sport skills to compete against other schools. Overall, both KS1 and KS2 pupils came 3rd! A fantastic achievement from the pupils. They had a fantastic day and showcased their sporting skills and teamwork, well done!
To begin our topic on Plants & Growing we had an afternoon being gardeners.
We learnt how to sow seeds and planted pumpkins and sunflowers.
We also planted a bean in a plastic bag!! That’s right, they are now hanging in the window of our classroom. Keeping warm in the sun, with a wet paper tissue. This way we will be able to see them start to grow.
We are hoping to grow our very own beanstalk – just like the story Jack and The Beanstalk.
Year 4 and Year 2 have been enjoying some reading collaboration work this term.
Key Stage 1 entered a multi-school gymnastic competition. We are so proud of our 5 competitors. They behaved impeccably and really showed their talents off on the gym equipment – well done girls. They returned to school with certificates.
On Thursday Year 2 went to see the baby animals at Hall Farm Park.
We had a fabulous day, enjoying a nature hunt; lamb feeding; a bumpy tractor ride; feeding the cows, goats and exploring the other animals.
What the children thought:
HB: My favourite part was walking the goats because they kept stopping to eat grass.
AH: My favourite bit was feeding the lambs, they were so soft and cute.
NW: I felt sad to leave all the animals, I wanted to take them home!
RP: My favourite part of the day was when we bottle fed the lambs because they were fighting over the bottle.
IS: On the way back I was sleepy because I had worn myself out on the farm.
Well done to the winners of the Pumpkin Easter Bonnet competition. All the hats looked wonderful.

Children from Seedlings and KS1 joined together for our Eater assembly. We sang Easter songs, listened to Reverend Hutson talk about Jesus at Easter and finished with a quiet moment of prayer. As a reminder of when Jesus died on the cross we then received a palm cross.
Mrs. Brady would like to thank the members of the Key Stage 1 choir for all their hard work and for their lovely singing today at The Infant Singing Festival at Grimsby Auditorium. It was lovely to see some of our parents in the audience too!
MD- I gave some flowers to the conductor at the end.
IB- I enjoyed singing 'Let's Go Home' because it was a gentle song.
JS- I enjoyed singing in front of a big audience.
FM- I liked singing the songs with actions.
AH- I liked hearing the band playing all their instruments.
CR- I liked the story and the little aliens.
MD- The extra alien sound effects were good.
Mrs. Brady would like to thank Mrs. Wink, Mrs. Bennett and Miss Vicary for all their help on the trip.
Back in January, the choir started learning some new songs all about a space adventure. These songs were written by local musicians Josie Moon and Pat McCarthy.
We were lucky enough to have them visit our school one afternoon, along with Hettie McCarthy (bass guitar) and Matty Gray (singer/actor). The choir had a great time, singing songs, acting and playing games.
This wonderful workshop helped to prepare them for the Infant Singing Festival where the choir will be performing at Grimsby Auditorium with children from other schools on Wednesday 20th March. The concert for parents begins at 1.50 pm-2.30pm. Tickets are available from Grimsby Auditorium.
We are very fortunate to have some new arrivals expected at school in the very near future. A hatching station has been delivered to school with 10 eggs that are expected to hatch within the next 2 days and they will be with us for the next 10 days. We will post updates on their progress on the science blog for you to check on. We can’t wait to see them and some children are already thinking of names to call them.

Stanford School had a fantastic day for World Book Day! From amazing, creative costumes to designing and creating their favourite character onto a wooden spoon- well done to you all!

Emma from the NSPCC came to talk to us about the work the NSPCC do, show Buddy, the 'Speak out' mascot and introduce a fundraising sponsored event.
On Thursday Pumpkin Class enjoyed a penguin themed day, linked to their new topic Animals From Around The World.
They made ‘fish’ sandwiches and penguin biscuits, studied and drew different types of penguin, made penguin paper plates and other decorations. They also learnt and performed a penguin song. In the afternoon they enjoyed eating their products at a penguin tea party. This is what some of the children said about the day:
JB – I liked making my plate because it was funny.
TA – I liked making my biscuit.
OS – It was so much fun!
SM – The best sandwich I’ve ever tasted!
IS – It’s the best hook day ever!
Stanford School have enjoyed their Christmas trip, watching Cinderella! A great time was had by all
Sunflower and Pumpkin classes performed 'A Present for the Baby'.
The story was about Baby Jesus who just wouldn't stop crying and nobody knew what to do. Even the most elaborate gifts that a King, a Queen and a Nobleman brought him couldn't make him happy. It wasn't until a little boy with a very special present (a kiss) managed to calm the baby and stop him crying.
IB: Everyone's done very well.
JO: It was tricky to learn words.
MH: I liked to hear everyone's singing.
PB: My favourite song was 'Just a Kiss.'
LS: I enjoyed doing all the actions to the songs.
CR: I liked the 'tra-la-las' in the choir song.
AM: The Grand Song was my favourite song.
LC: The story told us what is important at Christmas time.
What a fantastic Christmas Fayre - thank you to all those who supported it and to the pupils for showing their enterprise skills through designing, making, evaluating and selling their products. Well done everyone.
On Wednesday afternoon Year 2 children went on a visit to the library.
We learnt about fiction and non-fiction books and how to find them in the library.
We even helped Mrs Wink to put some books into alphabetical order.
We borrowed 20 non-fiction books all about knights and castles.
During Mental Health Awareness Week, Pumpkin class thought about who could help them in school if they needed help and also how they could help their friends.
Some super caring hearts were made!
Well done to A for her charity work to support the Little Princess Trust - she raised over £1000! Mum and school were very proud!
Key Stage One went to St. Margaret's Church for a lovely Harvest celebration. They sang special Harvest songs, presented Harvest gifts and found out all about the Harvest. Mr. Stevens showed them a wonderful display of fruit, vegetables, corn and beautiful flowers which were on display all around the church.
Pumpkin class ended their day on Friday doing some Yoga, linked to the book The Hungry Caterpillar. They all really enjoyed themselves!
This week we have been combining our maths and geography skills to learn the points of a compass and give and follow directions.
We made our knight in armour move around the board to reach all his possessions. And it was such fun!
On Wednesday 5th September Pumpkin class enjoyed their Hook Day.
With the theme being Castles, children dressed up as many different people who once lived in a castle. We had kings, queens, princes and princesses; knights, servants, jesters and many more.
The children enjoyed making castle cup-cakes and taking them home. They also made dancing knights and listened to medieval music.
It was a great day and a super start to our new topic.
