Geography – Exploring Global Water Issues
As part of our Geography learning, in Marigold class, we have been exploring global issues, including the fact that not everyone around the world has easy access to clean, safe water.
We researched countries where access to water can be challenging and explored a day in the life of a young girl who has to travel a long distance to collect clean water for her family.
To make our learning active and meaningful, the children took part in a practical, hands-on activity. They were able to experience a small part of this for themselves. The children travelled from one side of the playground to the other, carrying a small cup of water each time, working together to fill a bucket – helping them understand how many journeys may be needed to collect enough water for a family.
This active learning experience helped the children to put the issue into perspective and consider the time, effort and energy involved in collecting something that many of us have easy access to every day.
We also thought carefully about water conservation. We made sure none of our water was wasted, using the leftover water to water our plants.

🔬 Science Investigation in Marigold Class! 🚗
Marigold Class have been busy investigating different surfaces during our science lessons! We began by making predictions about what we thought would happen when a car travelled down a ramp onto different surfaces.
We then carried out our investigation, testing the car on a range of surfaces and carefully observing what happened.
We used scientific language to describe and explain our findings, thinking about how the different surfaces affected the movement of the car. We were fantastic scientists, making predictions, carrying out a fair test and recording our observations!

Rhodopis
In English, we have been developing our debating and oracy skills while exploring Rhodopis. We debated whether Rhodopis marrying the Pharaoh at the end of the story was a positive or negative outcome.
The children used their speaking and listening skills to share their opinions, provide reasons for their arguments, and respectfully agree and disagree with each other’s ideas. It was fantastic to see the children confidently expressing their viewpoints and responding thoughtfully to different perspectives!
