On this page you can see updates over the term of our activities and learning.
Year 1 have enjoyed exploring colour mixing to make secondary colours this term and have studied the wonderful art work of Clarice Cliff. Once they were happy with their designs, they went on to make their own Clarice Cliff inspired plate, which they are all very proud of.

Year 1 enjoyed their visit to the church. They learnt all about Easter, the significance of the palm leaf and the egg and enjoyed discussing how Easter is celebrated by Christians in church.

Some of our student had the privilege to visit St Margarent's church this week. They enjoyed their tour of the church and were fascinated by the beautiful challice, used in holy communion. They served some delicious orange cupcakes, made by our wonderful after school club children and they even did the washing up! Our children enjoyed interacting with members of the church community and discussing with their teachers, what it means to be part of the church community.

Year 1 had a fantastic world book day, full of reading, sharing of stories and crafts.
We started off our day by reading 'Grandad's island,' which is a vibrant picture book, written by one of our key authors this year.
The children went on to explore how the main characters might be feeling at the end of the story and wrote postcards from their point of view.
They then went on to share their favourite books and create their own book covers. Later, they made their own beautiful parrots, inspired by those on Grandad's island, which we are proudly displaying in our classrooms.
Thank you for all of your efforts with costumes and props, it helped us to make the children's day extra magical.
Year One had a lovely trip to The Deep in Hull this week. We have been learning about different types of animals, including many that live under the sea. We have also been learning about the different continents. We had a wonderful time exploring the aquarium. The penguins and the jellyfish were particularly popular. One of the turtles swam past and gave us a wave as well. The trip really helped to enrich our science and geography curriculum and the children were positive ambassadors for the school, full of enthusiasm and questions.
The children had a wonderful time with the help of their grown-ups to create the fantastic sliding pictures they had previously designed. They carefully used paper, card, scissors, glue and crayons to create amazing moving pictures.
‘It was fun. I liked my mum coming to help me.’
‘My dad helped me and we had some yummy food.’
‘If you pull the strip of card, a rabbit pops out of a hat.’
‘I made a hot air balloon. I could move it up and down.’
‘It was great to come into school and do some crafting with my child.’
‘We had so much fun learning a new skill and bringing his designs to life.’
‘Super fun and creative!’
In Key Stage 1 we love to get together to read and share our favourite stories.
‘It’s fun to read with people from another class.’
‘I showed my new friend my favourite stories.’
‘The older children could read the trickier words.’
‘I love to talk about the pictures and chat with people.’
Sunflower class have settled wonderfully into their year 1 setting. We have had two special days where we have focussed on the themes of friendship and kindness. We have read some stories about Elmer and thought about how to play kindly with everyone - and that we are all unique and special in our own way! We have also made friendship bracelets, lots of crafts and made some musical instruments.
